Calcium carbonate, or in other words calcite (CaCO3), is a transparent coarse-crystalline mineral type with a specific gravity of 2.6 to 2.8 and a hardness of 3 Mohs that can be easily broken.
After being grinded to a micronized size, calcite is used in many industries such as paint, paper, plastic (PVC pipes, profiles, panels, etc.), cable, construction (plaster, putty, course filling, gypsum plaster manufacturing, adhesives), food, ceramics and pharmaceutical industries. It is one of the basic and indispensable raw materials used. Calcite is a frequently used raw material thanks to its whitening properties, being cheap and the features it provides.
Again, in the paint industry, 25-30% calcite is used in the water-based paint system in the interior and exterior coatings of construction paints, and it reduces the consumption of titanium dioxide and reduces costs.
